The day before taking this shot, I was travelling towards the Flinders Ranges with my family. The light was fading and we decided to set up camp by a windmill just near the public road; there was no farmhouse in sight to ask permission. The next morning, the farmer came down to check the windmill. I apologised of course that I hadn't asked his permission and he said it was no problem at all. In fact he asked us what we were doing for breakfast, and invited us back to his house. We gratefully accepted, and were able to meet his family and enjoy a beautiful country breakfast. Later he showed me this old storeroom in one of his farm sheds. It proved to be an historic wonder, untouched since the early pioneer days when it doubled as a supply shop for other local inhabitants. There were spices, medicines, old lamps - even a boxed croquet set! It was a wonderful photographic "find" on top of what had already been a morning of exceptional country hospitality.
